Springbrook (formerly the
Upstate Home for Children and Adults)
Our church conducts several fundraisers for
Springbrook. Monies raised at the main
fundraiser go toward operating expenses. The all-church Christmas
Card fundraiser goes toward camper ships. We also collect Campbell
“Labels for Education” year round for the home.
The
Springbrook based in Oneonta, NY, began as an orphanage
in 1925, and eventually changed into a home for mentally handicapped
persons from the age of 5 through adulthood. It is a not-for-profit
corporation whose primary purpose is to provide residential care,
treatment, training and rehabilitation, and to provide foster-home
care services where appropriate. Recently,
the dormitory
style housing of the 1970's has been changed into group homes built
on the campus. The Board of Directors consists of representatives
from various American Baptist Churches in New York State.
You can learn more about this organization in the book
"Have the
Children Been Fed?" by William Nunn and Martha Hulings. Additional
information, about the Home, can also be obtained by visiting
Springbrookny.org or writing
directly to Patricia Kennedy, Executive Director, 2705 State Highway
28, Oneonta, New York 12820.
